HUMANOID ROBOTICS
Brief
When NextShoot was producing a documentary series about the development of the UK's first industrial humanoid robot, they brought us on as their local production partner to capture footage on the ground in Vancouver.
Over three days of principal photography at the Humanoid lab in Burnaby, we embedded directly with the engineering team to document the behind-the-scenes reality of building a bipedal robot. Going in, we had little more than an understanding of the story — no fixed schedule, no predetermined shot list. We had to adapt in real time, following the team's rhythm and filming the action as it unfolded. The priority was integration — operating as flies on the wall, moving fluidly through the lab without interrupting the team's work or slowing down their day. Our small, nimble crew kept the footprint minimal while maintaining high production value. We conducted a formal set-piece interview with the Systems Architect, as well as candid on-the-fly interviews with key leadership personnel, capturing their perspectives alongside b-roll of the lab environment, the engineers at work, and pivotal moments of bipedal testing.
We delivered a full raw footage library to NextShoot's team in London for post-production.
Impact
The footage became core material for an episode in Humanoid’s documentary series, contributing to a project that chronicles one of the most ambitious robotics ventures in UK manufacturing history. Our work appears from 6:49–11:37.
